Fourteener? ....
DENIED. Boo. So, just for clarification, the term "fourteener" is slang for a mountain summit higher than 14,ooo ft. I was in Denver on Tuesday for a business trip and attempted what is likely the easiest fourteener on the planet - Mt. Evans, only to find that the last 6 miles of the road to the summit closes the day after Labor day (which also happened to be the day I was there). oh well, maybe next time. I went ahead and traversed the switchbacks (no guardrail, by the way) as high as I could go, and took some photos at the end of the open road at Summit Lake. here are some shots from the journey (I've been told that I need to learn to embrace the journey, not just the finish line....I guess this is an example, and I should not be as disappointed as I am).
Another photo of the range from Summit Lake.
One of the natives that I encountered on the way down. The photo was a little misleading in size; this animal could see me through the passenger window of my SUV. Notice the guardrail at the edge of the road (sarcasm).
Photo from a lookout point on the way down. that's my rental car (Ford Edge).

The Summit is the peak on the left side of this photo. The summit is at 14,264'. This photo was taken from an elevation of about 12,900' at Summit Lake.
Photo looking down on Echo Lake, which is just below the ranger station/entrance to the road up Mt Evans.
