Easter Egg Hunting

Image
It's egg hunting season around here. We already went to two Easter Egg Hunts, and I bet there is at least one more in our future. The girls had a blast racing for eggs and Mommy was happy that they were filled with stickers and tattoos instead of candy and gum!

Spring Time

Image
Spring is officially here in Texas. And we had a VERY full weekend to show for it. We started out visiting our brand new Farmer's Market in our town - they even had yak meat - and Addison rocked out with the band. We also spent time at a friend's birthday party and planted some things in our garden. A huge favorite thing to do is water the flowers and then pick flowers... no flower is safe near our children!

Pappy and Ba-Chan's Visit

Image
Pappy and Ba-Chan came to visit us a few weeks ago and we had the BEST of times. Here's a look in to our visit, as told by pictures... starting with the obligatory "family photo shot"! One of the first things Pappy noticed was our out-of-control play room, where his last gift, the riding horse, takes center stage. The girls still play on the horse all of the time, but we didn't have a jack-in-the-box. Pappy brought one home and it's been a hit ever since. He also brought home some funny nose and glasses. They are still in Emme and Addison's "purses" and get brought out to make people laugh all the time. While Pappy and Ba-Chan were here, we also got Addison's hair cut. Pappy held her hand while she got a big-girl shampoo and while she got her hair cut. We also spent a lot of time dancing. The girls learned a new song, Little Sally Saucer, thanks to Pappy and have been singing it ever since. And finally, we spent time ready books. The girls...

Words of Wisdom from the Girls

Emme, looking up at her daddy: You're old. And I'm two. ******************************************* Addison, playing on the floor with Papa: What's in your belly? Papa: What do you mean? Addison: There's a baby in your belly. It's big. At that point, I believe Papa walked away and Nana just laughed.

Emme is T-W-O

Emme has really been showing her independence over the past few months. Control is a much bigger issue for her than it ever was for Addison. Whereas Addison would easily take a suggestion to clean the toy room or brush her teeth, Emme needs for those ideas to solely come from her (e.g. control the environment) or she becomes quite unhappy and refuses to comply with requests. From an educator/researcher perspective, it is quite fun to watch the differences between the two and try to figure out ways for both to be happy. From a parenting standpoint... it can be quite frustrating :-) Sleep is one thing that Emme truly loves to control. She likes to decide the when, the where, the why and the process that leads up to the sleeping. For the most part, sleep is something that we have put boundaries around (meaning there is a routine, but not a strict schedule), but we are pretty flexible as long as sleep actually happens. This is the result of that flexibility: That's right - Emme chose t...
