Emme is T-W-O

Emme has really been showing her independence over the past few months. Control is a much bigger issue for her than it ever was for Addison. Whereas Addison would easily take a suggestion to clean the toy room or brush her teeth, Emme needs for those ideas to solely come from her (e.g. control the environment) or she becomes quite unhappy and refuses to comply with requests. From an educator/researcher perspective, it is quite fun to watch the differences between the two and try to figure out ways for both to be happy. From a parenting standpoint... it can be quite frustrating :-) Sleep is one thing that Emme truly loves to control. She likes to decide the when, the where, the why and the process that leads up to the sleeping. For the most part, sleep is something that we have put boundaries around (meaning there is a routine, but not a strict schedule), but we are pretty flexible as long as sleep actually happens. This is the result of that flexibility:




That's right - Emme chose to sleep on her changing table for a two hour nap today. Yesterday, she went to sleep for the night curled up on her rocking chair. The day before that, she wanted to sleep on Addison's trundle bed. I'm hoping this "control" factor of sleep ends... you don't even want to hear about the epic battles we have around controlling food intake!
