Port Aransas

We just got back from a wonderful vacation weekend to Port Aransas. We left early Friday and came back late Sunday, but it was the perfect amount of time to get away with the girls. Since our last trip was filled with "owies" and sickness we were hopeful that this one would be filled with fun. It was! The girls were absolutely amazing for the car trip down. We had lots of reinforcements (full disclosure: Nana and Papa came with) such as finger puppets, magna-doodles, and songs to sing. We even brough Hi-5 with us on the computer, but only succumbed to playing it once on the five hour trip!

We got in to town late in the afternoon on Friday, but immediately changed into bathing suits and went to the pool. After we wore ourselves out, we went out for a yummy fish dinner and headed back. We said goodnight to Nana and Papa and off we went to our rental. The girls were to stay in the same room with two double beds, but the sun was still shining bright even at 8:00, so we ignored our normal evening rituals, put shoes on the girls and went out for ice cream. There was no ice cream to be found, but four different colors of slurpee were enough to hold the girls attention for a while. Addison and Emme finally settled on the blue one and we strolled back to the rental.

When putting the girls to sleep, Emme really didn't want to be in a "big girl bed" so Andy got the pack and play out for her. We said good night to the girls and listened to all of the giggling that ensued. We kept hearing Addison sit up in her bed, rustle around, and YELL to Emme, "STAND UP EMME! Stand Up!" We could then hear Emme giggle and stand up. This was enough to get Addison really going and say, "Wave to me Emme! WAAAAAAAAVVVVVEEEE!!!!!" When Emme waved, sure enough, we could hear them both collapse into giggles. This went on for a good half hour before we finally had to "put a stop to it" and get them settled. They slept well for the rest of the night until 4 am when Emme cried out. Emme often cries in the middle of the night when she is asleep, but as any good big sister would do, I could hear Addison sit up, say, "it's okay, Emme, it's okay" and then come run out to get me.

On Saturday, we had a full day at the beach. We headed out around 10 and stayed until lunch. Emme was VERY busy on the beach. We're not quite sure what she was trying to do, but the buckets of water had to keep coming and the shovel and rake never stopped moving :-)

After lunch we all had a good nap and then went to the pool. Daddy made a yummy dinner and it was back to the beach after that. Bedtime came, the girls were put into different rooms, and we all slept well after a VERY busy day. We headed back to the beach for a little bit on Sunday before packing up and heading back home. The girls were even better in the car on the way home and are sleeping peacefully as I write this.

Here are a few pictures from the trip. If you want to see them all, you can find them here.
